Moses D. Rasekele presents Khebhebhe Arts Project

We are excited to announce the upcoming Khebhebhe Arts Project (KAP) which will take place in Bolobedu from the 7th of January to the 4th of March 2023. The project consists of three phases: (1) Auditions and Training, (2) Rehearsal and Creation and (3) finally the presentation of the actual Khebhebhe Drama Festival.

We are looking for 25 young aspiring artists (actors) to be part of the project. On the 7th of January 2023, we will hold auditions to identify and select 25 young actors aged 18 to 35 at Kgapane Youth Centre. The selected youth will undergo theatre making and acting training from the 9th to the 13th of January 2023. Training will be facilitated by professional theatre practitioners who possess extensive experience and knowledge in the arts field. The project will train youth specifically in the form of dramatic arts. It will ensure they have a platform to use the knowledge that they gain to create plays, and also provide them with a platform to present their productions at the Khebhebe Drama Festival. The project is an important part in building a foundation for those who are interested in acting for theatre, television, film and radio.

The presentation of the Khebhebhe Drama Festival will reflect on the extensive journey traveled by the youth and this will be exhibited through and in their performances. It is a moment to celebrate the youth and the work that they have created through KAP. On this day the community is invited to come and witness the performances and acknowledge the participants. The successful artists/creators identified and selected to be part of the project will each receive a stipend for the two months that they will be participating in the project, this will be for the months of January and February 2023.

Produced and presented by Moses D. Rasekele, the project is funded by the Department of Sports, Arts and Culture’s National Arts Council through the Presidential Employment Stimulus Programme.

Project Timeline:

Auditions: 7th January 2023

Training: 9th – 13th January 2023

Rehearsals and Creation: 16th January – 3rd March 2023

Khebhebhe Drama Festival: 4th March 2023

Venue: Kgapane Youth Centre

We appreciate the opportunity to give back to our community through the process of theatre skills development as well as the opportunity to mentor to a crop of new aspiring actors in the Greater Letaba Municipality and beyond. In his reflection on the importance of doing a project like this in the town which he grew up in, Moses says that “I am thrilled to be holding this project at home, Limpopo, Bolobedu.  I have had the privilege of working throughout the country and in the SADC region, and I am now excited to be bringing the knowledge attained back home to share with the youth. Arts education access is close to my heart” - Moses Rasekele D, the project manager for Khebhebhe Arts Project.

Beyond the training provided to the participants, alongside the creation of their projects and final presentation of the festival, this initiative will create employment opportunities for the youth and serve as a catalyst for exciting economic activities in Letaba Municipality for three months. The project promises to unleash the untapped potential among the youth of Bolobedu who one day might actually make it onto the stages of national theatres and television and movie screens.

The partnerships we have with our stakeholders and our host Greater Letaba Municipality is hugely beneficial. Together our commitment of taking arts to the people has been made lot easier and increasingly significant.
