Khehla Chepape Makgato presents the Motlamogadi Bioscope Screenings
We are delighted to bring people closer and together for social engagement through the Motlamogadi Bioscope screenings which are earmarked to take place in the Limpopo Province’s Capricorn Region from 03 February 2023 to 03 March 2023. The project is a 5 week long project of screenings and discussions of two productions, namely Sesasedi sa Tsodio by Rangoato Hlasane and Man Alone by Roelf Matlala. The series will take place every Friday weekly over five weekends. The screenings will be followed by panel discussions by experts in the Film and cultural sector. The screening are about opening the doors of learning exposing opportunities that are in the arts and cultural sector while catalysing the culture of film consumption in our communities.
"Motlamogadi Bioscope screening is inspired by Dinonwane – folklore tales that were passed down to me by my late grandmother Raesetja ‘Motlomogadi’ Makgato who passed on in 2019 aged 99, " Chepape remarked. In honor of her memory, as my first storytelling teacher and someone who introduced me to ancient African culture of storytelling, this screening is befitting to happen. My ever evolving growth in the arts and cultural sector nudged me into thinking a lot about how to continue with what my grandmother taught me and think about it in contemporary times.
Open Call:
To schools, community members, young and old within the five designated communities please join us for the third and fourth screenings of "Sesasedi sa Tsodio", an essayistic video on the Kwaito classic "Tsodio" - essayistic video that takes a kwaito classic, Tsodio, as a song-being that narrates movements and biographies; conquests and namings; defeats and complaints; returns and ancestries and Man Alone, theater production that is pre-occupied with the idea of mental wellness and the questions thereof. The 5 screenings will take place every Friday of the week for the earmaked duration. To RSVP, please send an email to shaunmphahlele@gmail.com and /or Kaycee.chepape@gmail.com or SMS/Whatsapp 0718340870.
