Moses D. Rasekele presents Khebhebhe Arts Project

We are excited to announce the upcoming Khebhebhe Drama Festival! The festival takes place in the land of The Rain Queen Modjadji, Bolobedu, Kgapane on the 4th of March 2023.

A shot from Training session at Kgapane Youth Centre January 2023.

The Khebhebhe Drama Festival is the continuation, culmination and final component of the much anticipated Khebhebhe Arts Project, a project which consisted of three phases: (1) Auditions and Training, (2) Rehearsal and Creation and (3) the Khebhebhe Drama Festival.

We auditioned 412 aspiring youth artists and 25 were selected. We then put them through an intensive and rigorous multilayered training programme in dramatic arts by the industry expert leaders. They have since been divided into five groups and are creating theatre productions drawing from and inspired by the knowledge and various skills attained from the training that they received.

We are now waiting with great anticipation to witness the amazing work that the five groups have been creating. The festival is a moment to mark and celebrate their journeys in the project through performances. It will also be a graduation moment as the 25 youth will be bestowed with certificates for completing the project.

"This project has proved beyond doubt that our people want access to the arts, access to arts education, and we have to find ways of making the arts accessible to communities and give the youth opportunities they yearn and so deserves, " emphasised Moses D. Rasekele, the project manager.

The project is a foundation for those who are interested in a career the creative arts such as theatre, television, film and radio industry.

"It has been a great privilege to be part of this groundbreaking project flanked by historical moment where over 412 aspiring artists exhibited their talents to a panel of industry's experts and those 25 selected be taken through a training and now have theatre productions to showcase," - Khehla Chepape Makgato, project coordinator.

Produced and presented by Moses D. Rasekele, the project is funded by the Department of Sports, Arts and Culture’s National Arts Council through the Presidential Employment Stimulus Programme.

We appreciate our host Greater Letaba Municipality, together our commitment of taking the arts to the people has been realised through this project.
