Moses D. Rasekele presents the Khebhebhe Residency and Festival

Moses D. Rasekele, the director of Khebhebhe Centre for the Arts returns with an artistic developmental project to be held in Bolobedu from September 30th to December 16th, 2023. Through this project, we will continue to empower, share knowledge, and equip the youth of the Mopani District with skills to pursue careers in creative industries. Continuing on the success of Khebhebhe Arts Project wherein the focus was on skills transferal through training, mentorship for actors that led to creation of five theatre productions and a platform to showcase.

This year’s edition presents the Khebhebhe Residency and Festival, aimed at aspiring directors, writers, facilitators, and all round art practitioners who may have creative ideas or theatre scripts to be developed, mentored and presented at the next edition of Khebhebhe Drama Festival.

KRaF is funded by the National Arts Council, an agency of the Department of Sports, Arts, and Culture through the Presidential Employment Stimulus Programme. We further appreciate the Greater Letaba Municipality for their continued support and commitment to develop the youth through creative arts. The project is intended for the youth in Mopani District, specifically those from Greater Letaba and Greater Tzaneen Municipalities.  We extend our appreciation to MobiDigital, D-Tour Experience and Phaphadi Executive Castings.

The project trajectory is in four phases:

Phase 1

Date: 30th September 2023

Time: 10:00

Venue: Kgapane Youth Centre

Pitching, Auditions, and Induction of Directors/Creators, which will allow participants to present their ideas, scripts and conceptions for the play they want to develop into a production in the project and have it performed at the Khebhebhe Drama Festival.

The method for pitching and auditions will be as follows:

•Presentation of the idea, concept or script.

•Presentation can take a form of oral, photographs, storyboard, visuals and power point.

. Presentations are limited to five minutes.

Phase 2

Date 14th October 2023

Time 10:00-17:00. 

Auditions for Actors will solely be selected by the successful directors

The 5 successful directors/creators will hold these auditions and select suitable actors for their concepts or scripts.

Phase 3

1st November - 15th December.

Creation, Rehearsals and mentorship

Prepare, create and rehearse for the Khebhebhe Drama Festival.

Phase 4

16th December 2023. 

Venue Kgapane Community hall 

Time: 10:00- 15:00.

Khebhebhe Drama Festival

The festival will celebrate and mark the journey travelled throughout the residency program with Directors/Creators and their respective Performers/Actors staging their performances.

Khebhebhe Residency and Festival Offers the Following to the Directors:

Audition venue, Internet, Mentorship, Rehearsals space, Venue for performances, Marketing support, Administrative support, Production support, Actors Fees, Director Fee and Project Management.

“The project is an important initiative for directors/creators who are interested in realising ideas/concepts or scripts into a full production on stage. It is a platform for directors to realise the trajectory of their work from paper to stage”, said Moses D. Rasekele, the producer of the project.
